In a series of pivotal decisions on August 8, 2025, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved substantial outlays for key schemes and infrastructure projects. A budget of ₹6,520 crore was sanctioned for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), aimed at boosting the food processing sector and supporting farmers. Additionally, ₹2,157 crore was approved for the construction of the 4-lane Marakkanam–Puducherry (NH-332A) highway in Tamil Nadu under the Hybrid Annuity Mode. Further strengthening regional development, the Union Cabinet approved four new components under the Central Sector Scheme of Special Development Packages (SDPs) for Assam and Tripura, with a total central outlay of ₹4,250 crores. Budgetary support of ₹4,200 crores was also approved for the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERITE) Scheme. On the international front, Moldova became the 107th member country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
India has also been active in diplomatic circles, welcoming the upcoming summit between the United States and Russia in Alaska on August 15, 2025. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this meeting, occurring after more than three years of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, holds the "promise" of ending the conflict, with India expressing its readiness to support these efforts.
