The last 24 hours have seen significant developments in India, particularly in international trade, domestic policy, economic indicators, and scientific advancements. India and the UK have formalized a landmark Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) alongside a strategic Vision 2035 blueprint, set to bolster bilateral ties and boost Indian exports. Domestically, a new National Cooperative Policy – 2025 has been unveiled to strengthen the cooperative sector, and the government has reaffirmed its stance on the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' in the Constitution's Preamble. Economically, while the RBI notes resilience, some agencies have slightly lowered India's FY26 GDP growth forecasts. In science, ISRO has outlined ambitious future space missions, and the NISAR satellite launch with NASA is imminent.

International Relations & Trade:

  • India and the United Kingdom have signed a historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which includes zero-duty access on 99% tariff lines for Indian exports to the UK. This agreement is complemented by the India–UK Vision 2035, a strategic blueprint aimed at strengthening bilateral relations across trade, defence, technology, education, and climate action.
  • A key feature of the India-UK FTA is the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), which is expected to save Indian tech professionals working in the UK significant amounts by exempting them from paying into Britain's National Insurance system.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a five-nation diplomatic tour, which includes participation in the BRICS Summit in Brazil, aiming to strengthen India's bilateral relations and global role.
  • Concerns have been raised regarding China's construction of the Motuo Hydropower Station on the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra), a project triggering geopolitical and environmental concerns in India and Bangladesh due to potential impacts on river flow.

Government & Policy:

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah unveiled the National Cooperative Policy – 2025, a forward-looking policy designed to institutionalise, expand, and modernise India's cooperative sector. It aims to triple the cooperative sector's share in GDP by 2034 and empower rural, tribal, and marginalised communities.
  • The Central government has clarified that it has "no current plans" to remove the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' from the Preamble of the Constitution, despite recent public debates.
  • In a significant move to curb the misuse of certain drugs, the Delhi government has mandated the installation of CCTV cameras at all pharmacies by the end of July to monitor the sale of Schedule H, H1, and X drugs without prescription.
  • The government has banned 25 Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, including popular ones like ALTBalaji and ULLU, citing the hosting of "obscene", "vulgar", and "pornographic" content in violation of Indian laws.
  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post, citing health reasons.

Economy & Finance:

  • A recent RBI report indicates that India's domestic economy remains resilient despite global macroeconomic uncertainties, with headline CPI inflation remaining below 4% for the fifth consecutive month in June.
  • However, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Crisil have both slightly lowered India's FY26 GDP growth forecast to 6.5%, citing trade uncertainty and potential impacts from higher US tariffs.
  • Gross Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have shown a remarkable decline, dropping from 9.11% in March 2021 to 2.58% in March 2025.
  • India's electronics exports have soared by 47% in the first quarter of the fiscal year, indicating strong growth in this sector.
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has been recognised as the World's Best Consumer Bank 2025 by Global Finance magazine, acknowledging its digital innovations and financial inclusion efforts.
