Cricket: Jaiswal's Masterclass and Bumrah's Milestone in Test Series
On Day 1 of the second Test between India and West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show with an unbeaten knock of 173 runs. His stellar performance helped India reach a commanding total of 318 for two at stumps.
Jaiswal's innings was marked by flamboyance and effective stroke play, featuring 22 fours. This was his seventh Test century and the fifth time he converted it into a 150-plus score. In doing so, the 23-year-old southpaw surpassed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most 150-plus scores in Tests by an Indian player before turning 24. Tendulkar had four such scores, while Jaiswal now has five.
Joining Jaiswal in a significant partnership was B. Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 87 runs in a mammoth 193-run second-wicket stand. Sudharsan narrowly missed out on his maiden Test century, falling 13 runs short.
In another notable development, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah achieved a unique milestone. He became the first Indian seamer to participate in 50 matches across all three formats of the game (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is). Bumrah, who was part of the playing XI for the second Test, has taken a total of 467 wickets across formats.
